While other parks required extensive renovation or change, Olmsted wrote that this park appeared suitable enough, and small improvements could be made when sufficient funds were available. Like other parks, Olmsted advised planting deciduous trees that would prove more durable in the presence of coal ashes than pine trees. Olmsted also suggested that the size of drives be reduced while expanding the width of walkways and planting shrubs to make walks feel more private.
