Statement of Significance

The Earl Browne House, built in 1908, is architecturally significant as a good example of a Craftsman style. It is also historically significant for its association with the Browne family, whose members played an important part in settling and developing the Spokane area.  It was built for Earl Browne, son of John J. Browne, one of Spokane's earliest pioneers, for whom the historic Browne's Addition neighborhood was named.  Earl Brown and his brother Guy, like their father before them, helped to develop and promote the Spokane area.  The Earl Browne House represents early development of rural Spokane; it is one of the few remaining historic homes in Moran Prairie and one of the most intact homes in Spokane County.
