STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

With the construction of Spokane Parental School in 1908, Spokane became one of only five cities in the United States, together with New York, Boston, Chicago, and Seattle, with educational correctional facilities of its sort.  The school housed, educated, disciplined, and mentored delinquent boys.  Renowned Spokane master architect Albert Held donated his services, drawing plans for the school and outbuildings in the Dutch Colonial Revival style.
