OF SIGNIFICANCE |
| With its low-pitched front-gabled
roof with widely overhanging eaves, scalloped verge board, massive
decorative brackets, rough-cut wood siding, and second floor balconies
and gallery porches, the Koerner House is an excellent example of the
American Swiss Chalet Style. One
of very few houses in this style in Spokane, the Koerner House retains a
high degree of integrity of location, design, materials, workmanship,
and association. The home was built in 1912 for Carl Koerner, a successful
Spokane accountant, and his wife Mathilda.
Koerner worked on the plans himself, probably with the aid of
Peter Moe, a draftsman for prominent Spokane architect Carl Jabelonsky,
who may also have contributed to the design. |
