| Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane and Spokane Preservation Advocates fund Nettleton's signage!
In October, the Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane announced a generous donation of $5,000 to the Nettleton's project. In November, Spokane Preservation Advocates announced a $5,000 match of that donation. The money is being granted to the Spokane Arts Fund toward fabrication and installation of signs at the two remaining eastern entrances to the district, Boone and Mission. These signs, like the sign installed at Dutch Jake’s Park last year and pictured here, will be fabricated by Steffan Wachholtz, a Nettleton’s Addition resident, UCLA Design Department Teaching Associate and recipient of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) Interior Product Design Award and the Resources Council Product Design Award (ROSCOE).
The neighborhood has an unfunded commitment it needs to fulfill in order to receive the grant money. Two commitments the project made in return for the funding are that the Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane and Spokane Preservation Advocates be acknowledged as donors with plaques at the sites and that National Register of Historic Places plaques be installed at each of the three locations to meet an educational requirement. Donations toward the plaques are tax-deductible through the Spokane Arts Fund. If you have questions about the signage project, feel free to call Karen Mobley, Director of the Spokane Arts Commission at 625-6079.
The Nettleton’s Addition project has received generous financial and in-kind help from a broad range of supporters, including the Washington State Office of Community Trade and Economic Development, the City of Spokane, Spokane Preservation Advocates, Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane, Nitze-Stagen, Inc. of Seattle and the West Central Neighborhood Council. The Nettleton's Addition Historic District wouldn't be have been possible without each one of them. Thank you! |
