Colonel
George Wright camped in the area of Bassett Springs during 1858.
The Bassett log cabin was built during the late 1800s, was moved
across the road to its present site and was used as a blacksmith's shop.
The log barn located next to the cabin was built from 1900 to
1903 by the Bassett family. Logs
for both the barn and cabin were taken from the surrounding fields. In 1976, Washington State prepared a bicentennial report on
the property with an audio interview by Rita Owens. John Rogers High School students re-roofed the cabin in 1956.
The
Bassett Log Cabin is a one-story building made of notched logs.
The barn is post and pin log construction. >Back to National Register Properties |
