Demolition Ordinance Revision Updates In lieu of a Landmark Commission meeting for the month of May, the Historic Preservation Office hosted a workshop to discuss the Demolition Ordinance. The meeting was attended by seven Commission members as well as several members of Spokane Preservation Advocates. Kristen Griffin, Historic Preservation Officer, presented information about the function of the Ordinance and used statistical analysis to evaluate how the Ordinance has affected historic buildings in Spokane in the past five years. Attendees expressed interest in re-examining the Ordinance to address issues of delay, mitigation, and public input. The workshop was largely successful in conveying information and generating public discussion, and the Office will use the suggestions of attendees to continue evaluating and improving the Ordinance and the process of Demolition Review. If you are interested in receiving more information or being a part of the process of developing the revised ordinance, please email jmcwilliams@spokanecity.org with contact information. Links
